Proof of Consent
Proof of Consent is Trustwards' built-in audit system that generates verifiable records of every user consent decision on your website. It provides the documentation you need to demonstrate compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations during audits or legal inquiries.
What is Proof of Consent
Every time a visitor interacts with your cookie banner, whether accepting all cookies, rejecting non-essential ones, or customizing their preferences, Trustwards automatically logs this decision with a unique identifier and timestamp. Proof of Consent lets you export these records as downloadable CSV files for any date range you need.

The need to have a Proof of Consent
Privacy regulations don't just require you to ask for consen, they require you to prove you obtained it. If a Data Protection Authority (DPA) requests evidence that a specific user consented to marketing cookies on a specific date, you need documentation ready. Without proper records, your organization faces potential fines and legal liability.
Recorded data
Each consent record captured by Trustwards includes:
- Consent ID: A unique, anonymous identifier for each user's consent session. This allows you to trace individual consent decisions without storing personally identifiable information.
- Timestamp: The exact date and time when the user made their consent decision.
- Category Choices: A clear record of which categories the user accepted or rejected (Functional, Analytics, Marketing, Other).
- Texts Version: The version number of your banner and modal texts at the time of consent, ensuring you can prove exactly what information the user saw before deciding.
- Banner & Modal Text: The actual text content displayed to the user, providing full context for their decision.
- Categories Description: The descriptions shown for each cookie category, documenting what users were told about each type of tracking.
Proof of Consent limits
Proof of Consent has the same rate limits per month as the Scanner.
